Online Correction of Errors : Strategies for Correcting Errors : Data Validation Errors

Data Validation Errors

If an EDI document is standards-compliant and has not triggered a translation error, the functions it contains will be processed by Catalogue. This includes running business rule validations, data validations, and compliance checks for each item. If an error occurs during one of these checks, the error appears in EP, and no data maintenance takes place for that item.

There are several ways to approach correcting data validation errors (online and offline)

Online Error Corrections

Online error corrections are corrections you make using EP. Two possible strategies are listed below:

*
*

Example: One qXML function may create a Selection Code; however, the Selection Code description is invalid. Another qXML function attempts to add items under the same Selection Code which does not yet exist. Therefore, both functions contain errors. You can fix one error (the Selection Code) and resubmit all the error documents; all functions will succeed.

Offline Error Corrections

Offline error corrections are corrections you make using an interface other than the browser interface.

You can examine the types of errors in one or more error documents. You may decide that it is easier to change the data in the system that generated the document and resend the EDI document to OpenText. Therefore, you would want to delete the error document in Error Processing because it will be superseded by a document with new data.

Note: Control numbers must be unique. If a duplicate control number is found, the entire EDI document will be ignored. The corrected document must be sent with a new control number.
