Importing a CSV text file to Excel

You can import your CSV text file of GS1 US color or size codes to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Use the following procedure to format the data to display the leading zeros for the codes.

To import a CSV text file of GS1 US color or size codes to Excel

From the Data menu, select Import External Data > Import Data. The Select Data Source dialog box opens.

Browse to the CSV text file you want to import, and select it. Click Open. The Text Import Wizard - Step 1 of 3 opens.

Select Delimited as the file type that describes your data. Click Next. The Text Import Wizard - Step 2 of 3 opens.

Under Delimiters, select Comma as the only delimiter. Click Next. The Text Import Wizard - Step 3 of 3 opens.

Under Column data format, select Text as the column format for the column that contains the GS1 US color or size codes. Click Finish. The Import Data dialog box opens.

Select New worksheet. Click OK. The data is imported into the Excel spreadsheet and displays the GS1 US color or size code information, including the leading zeros for the codes.
