Special Character Encoding Guidelines Generally, issues with special characters stem from character encoding mismatches. Active Catalogue uses the Windows-1252 (Cp1252) character encoding. This is similar to ISO-8859-1, and the two special characters supported by Active Catalogue, the copyright character and the registered trademark character, are mapped identically between the two encodings. Depending on the interface you use, use the one of the following methods to ensure that special characters are handled properly: Preferred method. Use a text editor with a Character Map tool and select the ISO-8859-1 encoding. Most modern text editors have Character Map tools that allow you to change the encoding and copy the desired special character to the clipboard. The special character can then be pasted into a field in the UI or pasted into the file for subsequent loading via text file upload. When generating EDI or Web Services requests for submission to Catalogue, the mechanism used to create the file must use ISO-8859-1 encoding.
